As far as first imitation go, Lexmark's Interact S605 doesn't dissatisfy. Gracing the front of the frame is an extra-large, colour touch-screen screen. We've seen touch-screens on printers ahead of, but nothing rather like the Interact 605's display. Top of all, it's very reactive as well as therefore easy to make use of.

There's no fax module built-in, but the S605 does arrive with a flatbed scanner suspended on top, which offer both copy as well as scan functions. At the front sits a PictBridge USB port along with a card reader that allows SD, Memorystick, XD as well as MMC formats. Given the glorious LCD display, it's somewhat of a surprise that it's not achievable to edit photos when printing nonstop from a memory card.

As well as a conventional USB connection, the Interact S605 also arrives with wireless networking fitted. You can either make use of the application to pursue down your network, or else setup all using the printer's on-screen menus. Driver support is also excellent, with Windows XP, Vista as well as 7 catered for, along with Mac OS X in addition to even Linux.

The prints look practically fine with darker shades are handled fine, even though colors aren't as well-off as we'd like. We also weren't too overwhelmed with the level of fine feature it managed to invoke up, with speckling obviously visible on the A4 print. Thankfully this is less visible on smaller-sized prints, but given the cost of the printer we were hoping for a little better.

We've utterly no doubts about text quality, although, with the test prints almost the same from that of a laser printer.
