Thread: Epson TX550W Printer

The TX550W is a fully loaded printer, copier and scanner. It boasts of extras such as viewing screen, Wi-fi, USB 2.0, Multi and CF card readers. There is also a Pictbridge USB connection, enabling direct printing from digital cameras. The build quality of the printer is good, sporting a shiny black look. The body is made of good quality plastic, although the control buttons felt cheap. The 2.5 in LCD screen makes navigation simpler. The front and rear paper trays can be folded, giving the machine a compact look. when not in use. We found the TX550W easy to use, and the menu is pretty simple and easy to pick up.

The printer section has four separate ink tanks, three different qualities of ink can be used, one can opt for the ideal combination depending on consumption. TX550W performed well in our printing tests, both text and image printing output were good. A page of draft text was ready after just 3 seconds, without compromising on quality. Ten pages of text took just under 35 seconds to print in normal mode,with decent quality output, which was impressive. Using higher modes gave deep black finish and smoother character edges, but the time consumed was double at 7 seconds for a page.



An A4 photo print took around 3 minutes 20 seconds, though the print was detailed and colours were accurate. In the scanning test it performed well, and the device produced a file ready to edit in 30 seconds. In the copier mode the device performed adequately with an easy-to-use the software offering advanced controls for the experienced user. The copiers output was not very accurate in terms of colour reproduction, though no details were missed. We had no complaints with the TX550W on the performance front. It does everything almost perfectly, especially in terms of output quality. The build quality, connectivity and looks are good.
