These are caused by the print heads being out of alignment. Other indications of the same problem are crooked vertical lines and jagged sloping lines. Fix the problem using the head alignment utility in the printer control program. This prints a series of test images, from which you pick the ones that look best and then feed back your choices to the printer control program. All future printouts are then adjusted accordingly. Some printers can perform this adjustment automatically.
