Windows XP uses a service called "Wireless Zero Configuration" that constantly scans your neighbourhood for other wireless connections. This helps your computer seamlessly connect to other wireless available networks, based on the signal strength. This is a great idea when you are mobile but in some cases, it might cause frequent disconnections. You might need to disable this service if your network frequently gets disconnected. To do so, follow these steps:

To access this service and other Windows services, browse to the "Control Panel".
 Click on "Administrative Tools".
 Double-click on "Services".
OR you can launch Windows Run.
 Type "services.msc" and press "OK".

 From the services window, scroll all the way down to "Wireless Zero Configuration" and right-click on it.
 Now click on "Properties".
 From the "Service Status" area, choose "Stop" to stop the service. From the "Startup Type" drop-down menu, choose "Disabled" so that the service doesn't start the next time you start Windows XP.
