The probLem you are referring to is known as a "paper jam". If your printer has an LCD screen, you'd get a paper jam error on it. When paper gets stuck in the printer, never try to puLL it out from the front. As far as possibLe, try not to tear the paper or shut off the printer.
If you do, the ink cartridges wiLL start moving to the home position on one side, and that movement wiLL crush or tear the paper. Here's what you shouLd do. Most printers have a rear access door. Gently turn the printer around and avoid touching the eLectricaL contacts of the pLugs. The rear door wiLL either have a click Latch or a dial.
Turn the diaL or press the Latches to open the rear door. The stuck paper shouLd now be visibLe. HoLd the two corners of the paper with both hands and gently puLL it away from the printer. Do not appLy excessive force. The paper usually comes out easiLy, unLess it is crushed within the roLLers. If that's the case, use a brush to gently clear the paper from the roLLers.
Look under the rollers for any torn bits of paper. Once the paper is removed, switch off the printer. Use a brush to remove the torn bits of paper from the printer. When the paper is cleared, repLace the rear access door and switch on the printer.
