The AII-in-one or Multifunction devices usually combine printers, scanners, copiers and fax either all of these or any combination of these, in one device. On the ones that have fax, there is either a built-in modem (in which case you can send faxes even when your computer is turned off) or a software that lets you use your computer's fax modem. The Multifunctionals were used to be known as compromising in one or more functions. But nowadays, the manufacturers are making MFD s with high-quality scanners and printers that are the same quality as regular printers.

If you want to print photographs but also print a lot of text documents, and would like to save on space and money on all the devices, an MFD might be a good choice for you. Bear in mind that it may be hard to find an MFD, if you're looking for special specs in one or more of the devices. And, because most models use the exact same paper for all the functions, some users end up saving money on that end of the deal as well.

A major drawback to these printers is that, if certain parts break, the entire unit is useless. If, for example, the digital display dies, you can't really do any job with that piece of equipment. Overall, however, small businesses would do well to consider an all¬in-one, especially if those companies are still in the growing stages.
