AMD IS TRYING every trick in the trade and even invent¬ing some of its own to counter Intel's extremely success¬ful Core 2 lineup. The launch oftriple core CPUs seems to be one such.
Performance - A Mixed Bag In this price range, there are a couple of competent Intel dual core CPUs that the X3 8750 has to battle with. For instance, the new Core 2 Duo, the E8200 or the older E6750, both clocked at 2.67 GHz. Compared to these, the Phenom X3 8750 is low on clocks but benefits from an additional computing core.
In PC World's real world benchmarking suite, World¬Bench 6.0, the X3 8750 managed a score of 96, which is not impressive when you compare it to the score of 110 that the older Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 produced.
WoridBench 6.0 multitask¬ing test (runs Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Office simul¬taneously), took 290 seconds to run on the triple core, while on the Core 2 Duo E6700, the test ran marginally faster, taking 280 seconds to complete. The presence of a third core is not giving the X3 8750 a boost over the Intel Core 2 Duo CPUs in real world applications.
