The additional core on the X3 CPUs make sense if you want to upgrade from a basic dual core on the AM2 platform; or to build a rig to do more than just everyday computing and handle a fair bit of multitasking.

The availability of the newer 780G chipset motherboards with excellent onboard graphics is a plus point for these X3 CPUs if you don't want to splurge immediately on a video card. For all round perfor¬mance, a wiser option would be the new Core 2 Duo E8200, which can overclock to 3.2GHz with¬out too much sweat when handled by an expert.
