At the beginning of 2010, Intel released a processor packed with innovations. For the first time in 32-nanometer processors were made, and presented with an integrated graphics unit - called the Westmere architecture and complement the Lynnfield and Bloomfield-series from Intel's product segment.
Where Intel demonstrates on the one hand, more and more power, as with the six-core Intel Core i7 980 top model X, it can be on the other hand, the poorer performance classes for the little money can not ignore. Thus serve the Intel Core i3 for an inexpensive entry into higher power ratings - although they have only two cores, but are otherwise the larger processors LGA 1156 after only a few things.
An object of the i3 processors also consists of the base 775 Verdränung generation. So shall the Intel Core 2 Duo / Quad eventually be unattractive to customers so that this platform is no longer cost-effective alternative to the Lynnfield and Bloomfield processors.
But how to beat the new techniques and the processor, the Intel Core i3-540 representatives of the larger, Intel Core i7-870. In addition, the test includes an answer to the question, in what areas of the processor can be used for and what buyers are qualified by the Intel Core i3-540.
