Using new software programs and advanced technology, you may find your HDD is too small for your requirements. Rather than buying a new system, you can replace your HDD. Changing a HDD on a PC is not hard to do. Follow these instructions to change a HDD with ease.

Removing a HDD

Step 1

Find out if you are count a main HDD or a back up HDD. Disconnect the PC from the control source.

Step 2


Remove left-side panel carefully.

Step 3

Situate the HDD which is situated near the front of the PC.

Step 4

Follow the tie to ensure it is the primary HDD. The primary HDD ribbon connector is usually blue.

Step 5

Remove screws from sides of HDD and remove HDD from bracket.

Step 6


Disconnect the HDD from the tie and unplug the power plug from the HDD and remove.

Installing a New HDD

Step 1

Find out if you are adding a main HDD or a back-up HDD.

Step 2

Make sure the HDD connectors for the jumper setting. Ensure the plastic pin on the end of the HDD is set to "Master" or "CS (cable select)" if you are installing a main HDD. Ensure the plastic pin on the end of the HDD is set to "Slave" if you are installing a back up HDD. The setting of the new HDD is supposed to be the same as the old HDD.

Step 3

Connect the ribbon to the similar plug on the HDD.

Step 4

Set the HDD in the slot.

Step 5

Format your HDD if it is uniform. Your new HDD is now geared up to use.
