    Default Wildcard characters in SQL

Hi. I am last year MCA student. I am learning SQL database language. I have to write very difficult query on the condition of "Matching Case". Someone told me that it will be very simple using "Wildcard characters”.. What are the different "Wildcard characters" in SQL? All possible replies and comments are appreciated.
