I try to remove the password from the main account on my computer but when I try to remove it under User Accounts, it keeps telling me it necessary. I am running Windows XP. I'm totally lost ... help!

Damn. So I cannot delete the password since I am not the Administrator
Is your computer or someone else's computer to use? I have Windows XP and I am the owner of the computer, which allowed me to go remove my password .. If you are an admin everything you need to do is go into user accounts and there is an option that says "delete the password. they do not recommend it because it is much more stable w / a word I kno .. going to experience first hand .. jus take the 3 seconds it takes to write the password at startup ..
I guess in his case he is not the Administrator of the computer but merely has an account on it. Only Administrators can fix whether or not your account wants a password to utilize or not. This is for security concludes so that people cannot delete their password minus the Administrator recognizing that this has occurred.
