AMD created the strange decision of establishing its first 28nm graphics board 2 days early Christmas, and though we got the card to blisteringly fast, the Radeon HD 7970 kinda acquired lost behind the tinsel and Fresh Year's celebrations.

But in case you had forgotten, now is the day that the world's quickest individual-graphics processing unit graphics board comes in stores ready for collection. If you have been storing up your Christmas money - or you have flogged 'lesser' presents in anticipation – here is a fast breakdown of Radeon HD 7970 costly and availability at 2pm on day one.

In previous year's review (sounds weird telling that about a brand-new card, does not it?) we advised that client may need to expect until the cost drops later the initial launch-day mayhem subsides.

That recommendation even stands, as day-one costing looks to be edging higher through the minute. While we began collecting costing data, cheapest choices was the PowerColor HD 7970. A launch-day bargain, we thought, but the price of the in-stock card has since been bumped up, which is more in line with the other retailers.

Shop around and you will search that AMD's new-greatest is available at affordable cost points; the OCuK HD 7970 3 gigabyte card available is the cheapest option, but stock of that special example is not looked until January 27.

Elsewhere, there a broad range of partner cards to select from, with readily available, but costing varies wildly - despite the truth that most of the above-listed cards are founded on the similar reference plan.
