CAUSE
This problem happens for the following causes:
• An application that is installed on PC uses an outdated kernel-mode filter driver.
• A third-party file system filter driver interferes with other filter drivers.
• The VERITAS Backup Exec Advanced Open File Option (Vsp.sys) filter driver is filled in mixture with an antivirus filter driver like one of the following Symantec
AntiVirus Corporate Edition 8.0 filter drivers:
o Symevent.sys (Symantec Event Library)
o Navap.sys (Symantec AutoProtect)
The file that causes this problem is the SystemRoot\system32\drivers\Vsp.sys file.
RESOLUTION
To solve this problem, contact the company of the filter driver, and ask them about the filter driver update availability.
WORK AROUND
To solve problems with the Vsp.sys driver, follow proper steps.
• Remove the Vsp.sys driver or else delete the VERITAS Remote Agent.
• Remove the VERITAS NetBackup 4.5 client, and after that set up the 3.4.1 edition of the NetBackup client. This edition does not include the Vsp.sys driver.
• Remove the VERITAS Remote Agent software, and after that set up the VERITAS Remote Agent lacking the Advanced Open File selection.
• Install the most newest patched edition of the VERITAS Advanced Open File selection.
• Modify the registry to temporarily deactivate the Vps.sys filter driver, and after that restart the PC. If you make use of the Windows 2000, use the Registry Editor to change the registry subkey.
To manually disable the Advanced Open File Option service, follow these steps:
1. find the following registry subkey:
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servi ces\VSP\Start
2. Put the Start value to 0x4.
MORE INFORMATION
The backup process enabled by Vsp.sys driver to delay itself and to cache file writes throughout backup process. The Vsp.sys driver is found in %systemroot%\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS. The affected file versions are 1.2:0.0 and 1.0:0.0.The driver is added in VERITAS NetBackup or in VERITAS BackupExec for Windows 9.0.This file is also installed on the system by the VERITAS Remote Agent.
