The E6400 comes with numerous wireless connection options. Mobile broadband subscribers can go for either an EVDO/GPS card or an HSDPA/HSUPA/GPS card. The E6400 can also be configured with Bluetooth and UWB. The E6400 even has a FireWire port, 4 USB 2.0 ports, VGA, Display port, Ethernet port, eSATA, 5-in-1 memory card reader and either a PCMCIA slot or an ExpressCard 54 slot. An integrated webcam and microphone are also available though optional. Dell’s E6400 support a variety of docking solutions such as the E-Port, E-Port Plus, E-Legacy Extender, E-Flat Panel Stand, E-Monitor Stand, E-View Laptop Stand and E-Media Bay.
Dell’s new E6400 has a unique feature and that is an ambient backlit keyboard, which are incredibly dark places such as conference rooms or hotel rooms. The E6400 has various other business-friendly features, like a Trusted Platform Module chip, a contactless Smart Card reader and a fingerprint reader, available only for $29 (optional). Most of the corporate IT departments give too much importance to these features. Dell's custom ControlPoint software widget provides a neat, easy one-stop border for accessing security, power and networking settings. Other business laptop producers like Lenovo provides their versions similar of catch-all administrative applications, but Dell’s version is exceptionally simple to access and very handy.
Dell assures battery life of about 19 hours if combined a nine-cell battery with the optional twelve-cell "battery slice,” which is basically a massive battery that occupies the bottom of the system completely. The nine-cell battery alone gives about four and half hours of use while watching video reportedly, which is more than average. Dell's stress on providing a long battery life surely paid off. The E6400 is highly configurable. Dell’s latest machine provides the option of selecting faster parts. The E6400’s 2.53-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo is energy saving and its performance is also pretty impressive.
