I am going to discuss with you a queer behavior of fonts (mostly postscript outlines or 'Adobe Type-l' fonts) that I have installed along with Adobe Font Folio 11. I installed 'Helvetica Std' font. The problem with this font and (as I think with most PostScript Outline fonts) is that some programs can't include them in the font dialog box that appears when we want to change the font that application is using. Some programs like Photoshop and Visual Studio can list them but others like Internet Explorer 8, Safari, Gujarati Lexicon (developed in Java) or Microsoft XML Notepad 2007 cannot list them at all. However, regular Windows Notepad can list it. Why is this happening? I mean, why does IEB also not allow me to choose postscript outline fonts as a default font for web page while Windows' Notepad allows me to do so? Even the same font dialog box used by Notepad and XML Notepad behaves differently. What is the solution for this? Please reply soon. Thanks and regards.
