How to Scan Your Documents with Open Source
Sane and XSane are open source text scanning application available for the Linux and Unix XSane is the graphical user interface for the sane utility. The Sane software permits to save papers in a lot of formats including .pdf, .jpeg and .tiff. The software permits you to do complex tasks such as enhancing the ID appearance, sending a fax or email and scan multiple ID at once. Sane and XSane are installed by default on most major Linux and Unix systems.
Instructions
Configure the Scanner
1. Step 1
Stop scanner into your computer and turn it on.
2. Step 2
A mortal window which will be found under the "Accessories" or "Utilities" section of the main menu.
3. Step 3
Type the authority "sane-find-scanner" to allow Sane to determine your scanner specifications.
4. Step 4
Type the command "exit" to close the terminal window.
Scan Documents
5. Step 1
Open the XSane application. The XSane request will be found below "Graphics" in the main "Applications" menu.
6. Step 2
Choose the file type you want to use to save text from the drop down list next to the word "Type."
7. Step 3
Click "Scan" to scan your document.
8. Step 4
View the text in the "Viewer" window that appears to ensure that it has scanned correctly.
9. Step 5
Click the green "Floppy Disk" image at the top of the monitor to save the file.
