What began as an application called Cool Edit proved so popular and versatile; Adobe purchased the title, added some refinement and released the request as Adobe Audition. Version 1.5 fixed hardware compatibility evils added new features and the title was on the way to becoming an industry standard for PC based digital audio workstations.

Creating the Content

1. The nearly all practical need in a media making environment is to alter the content of an audio file. For this tutorial, we will use the edit part to record a easy narration that includes an intentional mistake, then eliminate the error for an accurate read of the original script.

Begin by recording the following sentence: "Thanks to the tired, tireless labors of a few volunteers, the Herculean effort was a success."

Learn the Edit Interface

2. The waveform is now displayed in the "Main" tab of the edit window. Our goal now is to remove unwanted elements of the sentence you read.

Select region of the waveform by spent the edit area by holding the left mouse key down. The cursor is a yellow spread line topped by a yellow triangle. Connect on the waveform will locate the cursor the mouse will define the end of the edit region.

Locate the part of the sentence that says "tired." We need to remove only that word without disturbing the remaining audio.

The space bar to create and stop playback. Visualize the word "tired" begins and ends. The words several times before you are confident you know what the word looks like on the waveform.

A region to take in just portion of the waveform. May need to magnify the waveform for greater precision before create your edit. The green band just above the waveform display allow you to zoom and and locate regions on the edit time line. The ends of the band toward the center of desktop to zoom in.

3. Using these basic restriction techniques, you can see how easy it is to transform a poorly read script read into a flawlessly executed narration. The key is to visually identify problem spots and quickly create and edit area that isolates those areas. Audition's intuitive interface makes cleaning up audio a snap.
