Excel allows making spreadsheets, but frequently other programs can't read its XLS file format. Though, Excel allows converting its spreadsheets into CSV format, which almost each spreadsheet based program can read.

Instructions

Step 1

Double click XLS file to open it in Microsoft Excel.

Step 2

Go to "File" and click "Save As." In Microsoft Excel 2007, you get "Save As" below Microsoft "Office" button rather than "File" menu.

Step 3

Select CSV file format in drop-down box marked "Save as Type." If you design to utilize CSV file on Macintosh, select "CSV ".

Step 4

Pick go to folder in which you want to save CSV file and select file name.

Step 5

Click "Save."
