Default Some way to compress Video without affecting quality

I own a Sony MiniDV Handycam. My problem is that when I transfer my video from my Handycam to my computer, the file becomes too large. For example, a 10 - 15 minute video takes up 1 - 2 GB of hard disk space. I want to know if there is any way to compress my video without losing its picture quality. Please reply!

Transferring your videos from your Handycam to the computer can be done in different ways and can affect the amount of disk space being used on your hard drive. If you are using a FireWire cable to transfer the videos to the system, you can complete the video editing and then save the final file and later compress the video. In case you are using a TV tuner to transfer the video, you can use the recording software properties to compress the video directly. This will save space but you might lose out on the quality of the video. I would suggest that you first copy the video to the hard drive, do the necessary editing and enhancing of the video and save the final file. Then later use a video compression tool such as ImToo MPEG Encoder or HandBrake to reduce the size of the video.
