Changing JPG images to vector formats is simple, given you have right tools. Sadly, getting those tools can be rather hard. Raster to vector software abounds online, though, and as many programs lean to be expensive, there are cheap and even free options. Xara Xtreme, which prices less than $100 for Windows users, has fully free, open source version for Linux.

Instructions

Step 1

Download and install Xara Xtreme. Launch it, and open JPG file.

Step 2

Pick "Utilities", "Bitmap Tracer" to open tracer window. This is where real change will happen. Click "Trace" to preview vector output, changing sliders and repeating until it suits requirements. Click "Insert" to confirm transformation.

Step 3

Export image to vector format. EPS and Adobe Illustrator formats are two better options. SVG is brilliant vector format utilized broadly in open-source world, and WMF is utilized for clip-art images.
