WMF files are Windows Meta File images, these images created by arithmetical arcs and shapes instead of pixels. WMF is format for clip-art and logos as it is able of undergoing infinite scale and zoom operations without losing quality. JPG images, conversely, are in raster or pixel based format. They are able of detail but have only single resolution. Changing JPG to WMF is simple if you have proper software and as software can be difficult to find, cheap and full featured programs for raster to vector conversion do be present.

Instructions

Step 1

Download and install Xara Xtreme. This is drawing program that has bitmap tracing characteristic, permitting to change images into vector formats. Windows version prices less than $100, and free trial version is obtainable. There is totally free, open source edition for Linux users, however this version is rather behind commercial edition in development and unable to export to WMF.

Step 2

Launch Xara and import JPG image from "File" menu. Choose "Utilities" > "Bitmap Tracer..." to open tracer window.

Step 3

Click "Trace" to see preview of vector image. If it is not to liking, you can change sliders and do again until reach preferred output.

Step 4

Export vector reflection as "EMF/WMF," and choose "window Meta File" in another window that shows to finish conversion.
