Default Not able to install Windows Vista SP 1 in my system

My system configuration is as follows: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 1.8GHz processor, Asus M2V-TVM motherboard, 1.5 GB RAM, MSI Geforce 9400 GT graphics card and 160 GB hard drive. I am using Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit with no problem so far. My problem is that I cannot install Windows Vista Service Pack 1 on my system. After the installing process when the system restarts, I get and error stating "personalized settings not responding" and the waiting symbol displays for nearly eight to ten hours with no response whatsoever. I tried the Vista Upgrade Advisor, but it shows that the system is fully compatible with Vista. All my drivers are also up-to-date. I tried Windows 7 Beta, but it also failed. The system hangs after the final restart during the installation process. Please give me a solution to run Windows Vista with SP1 or SP2 or Windows 7 on my system. And please let me know the reason why it failed to install. Thanks.

This problem has been found in some specific desktops and laptops. The reason for the operating system not responding or failing to install is not completely known as yet, but the major problem lies in the motherboard. The motherboard model number and chipset is picked up by the operating system and installation carries on if the chipset is compatible. But a typical motherboard manufacturing fault or hardware incompatibility which is not detected by the operating system creates this type of problem.

There is no solution, but you can try change the motherboard and check if the computer works. To verify that the problem is only with the motherboard, try changing the processor and the memory sticks one after the other and try installing the operating system. If the motherboard is under warranty, ask the dealer to check the problem at his end and get a replacement if you can. If the warranty has expired, try updating the BIOS of the motherboard and see if it helps. Else you might have to ask a computer engineer to help solve the problem by changing some parts with the spares available to him.
