Leading means amount of spacing between lines in document. Term stems from practice in old days of setting space in lines with bars of lead. Leading, as it applies to word processing software, refers to distance between lines set by users with formatting choices available in word. Modifying leading in word documents is easy task that completed in some simple steps.

Instructions

Step 1


Start Microsoft Word go to "File" or "Start", based on version of Word. In Word 2007, use "Start". Click "Open" and browse to place where document you want to edit is saved. Double click document to open it in Word.

Step 2

Go to "Edit" and choice "Paragraph" option. A talk box will appear. Utilize "Indents and Spacing" tab to find leading adjustments.

Step 3

At "Spacing" options and below "Line Spacing," choose "Single," "Double," or "1.5." This places line spacing. To include extra space among standard line spacing choices, go to "Before" or "After" choices and arrow keys used to lift or lower leading. Select whether you want to include leading earlier or later lines of text. If you do not want any further leading, make sure that these settings are at 0.

Step 4

Click "OK" when accomplished, and leading set for document.
