My previous commuter crashed in 2009. Just buy a new one. When I load my old games I get a popup about changing my system. Am I damaging my new PC trying to run old software?

Are you running Vista now? Some older games you have to run in XP dense mode. You won't be damaging your PC just tiresome to run them.

It depends how old your games are - I frequently play the classics. If you used XP before, you may find that games need you to download a Dos-Emulator of sorts.
