Earlier than you close system to install new sound card, uninstalls old one. Or else you will on, and your system will be looking for old card, yet new one will be there needing interest. I had some problems and when I at last got around to testing my Device Manager, I saw both MX-300 drivers and Maxi Sound drivers installed. Win9x handled it with relative simplicity, but Win2k sure didn't like it. Though, I appropriately discarded remaining MX-300 stuff.
Now look at what I did not like about the card. The speaker hookup in the back sits very close to edge of my mobo tray. Now I will admit this could be a shortcoming with my AOpen HX-08 tower; though, I have 3 soundcards, and never had this problem.
Card is smaller than MX300 it replaced. But I like this. I am a big-time Airflow advocate, and less crap blocking my superb airflow. Now one of the highpoints of this card was really the software package that was contained.
