SoundXplosion Pack Review - Checking Out the SoundXplosion Headset
Moving on over to headphones, we have SoundXplosion 5.1 surround sound headphones. Initially it looks odd to be making a 5+ speaker headset for two years, but this might be a case of Gainward filling a want gamers did not know they had. Unless, obviously, you are a gamer living in a thin walled apartment or in a college dorm with a finicky roommate, in which case you have been begging for something like this. The bad news this won't be equal to a kick-ass surround sound speaker set. The good news this is first 3D headphone speaker place which does a decent job of sound localization.
The headset has a conservative and relaxed look to it unlike others we have checked, which create wearer look like a cast member from movie Starship Troopers. The headset is of a closed-ear design which is amazingly relaxed for long periods of time. It has a three-connector interface for front right or left, back right or left and center or subwoofer. The design is pretty clean. Our only worry with design was overhead connector. Though the headphones have a self-adjustable head strap, overhead connector is not changeable, and may end up placing headphones further away from top of the ear than bottom, affecting sound a bit. Also, it creates them a bit odd to tote around.
Gainward determined that only way to imitate surround sound in headphones was by really using and appropriately positioning many speakers. Within every earphone, there are four speakers, a front, center, and back speaker, and an outside sub-woofer/rumbler. Oddly, the back and center speakers are vertically aligned.
Looking inside the unit, we get three speakers, and sub-woofer or rumbler. The adding of a force-feedback rumbler was a good touch, and creates difference between an average and a great listening experience.
