SoundXplosion Pack Review - Inside the Music2Go
Inside, we get a C-Media card powering this unit. Actually, it is a single chip answer by C-Media's CM106-F chip. Though there are many actions occurs in software side of things.
The surround sound positional audio is handled by C-Media's Xear 3D technology, which is mainly a set of software APIs which convert 5.1 audio to stereo, and 2 channel audio to 5.1. Two of the technologies featured here are Speaker Shifter and Earphone Plus.
Speaker Shifter is supposed to permit users to almost drag and position speakers with its GUI tools without really having to position speakers around. Does it do the job? Not really, though it does do a better job than other technologies out there. Join that with a set of 5.1 or 7.1 surround speakers, though, and that then is other story completely. In this situation, Speaker Shifter does a good job balancing out speakers to taste, something which was rather welcome with SoundXplosion headphones.
Earphone Plus is somewhat a bit more inventive. By using a pair of 2-channel speakers and open-ear headphones, users can again create a full surround sound environment, with speakers acting as front speakers and head set acting ask back speakers. Not a terrible choice for those who totally want 3D audio but do not have the speakers or room to spare.
