ALTEC LANSING' BXR1221 is an upgrade to the 2 channel BXR 1220 with an added subwoofer. With their cylindrical satellite design and small footprints, the BXR 1221 is stylish and will fit easily on your desktop.

The three piece BXR1221 was designed keeping in mind the 'at home anywhere' concept that really made the speaker score high on ergonomics. The tubular speakers with their plastic enclosure house a single driver which is rated at 2 watts RMS each.

The compact 4-inch subwoofer came with an external adapter, and it can be easily tucked away behind the computer LCD monitor. It has as-watt RMS rating making the total system output 9-watt.

The system was easy to set up, with no tracing of color coded wires required: All we needed to do was fire those satellites at ear level and tuck the subwoofer under the table on the floor. The speakers sounded warm but the higher frequencies could have been sharper. The presence of lower mids was obvious but the upper mids and highs reproduction was too blunt for our taste. For the lows, its subwoofer was not expected to sound overwhelmingly deep, but it was still too weak to let us feel even the mid bass. At moderate volume, they deliver decent sound for some casual listening, but when it came to giving a little extra to hip hop and electronic, the BXR1221 just didn't do enough justice. They were just enough for those soft ballads. Distortion was also inevitable for speakers at this price point. For gaming and movies, the speakspeakers did not really shine; vocals with background scores sounded mumed and action scenes were not as entertaining with weak soundstage and the underpowered subwoofer hardly coped with the scenes.

Overall, the BXR1221 would suit a place where you require a room full of soft music but not for where you and your friends plan to have a blast.
