No PC speaker comparison can be complete without Altec Lansing, and their FX5051 is quite a hit in recent years. It has five metallic accented satellites, with similar permanently fixed stands. The connectors are simple RCA jacks for each speaker with color coded wires connected to the speaker permanently, thus making it easy to setup. The control pod provided is a small square set with a circular arrangement of translucent buttons that light up green. It has controls for power, bass, treble, and also buttons for center and rear speakers. An IR remote control comes bundled with this speaker system.

The sound output is pretty impressive in terms of frequency response, though we must say that bass is comparatively weaker than the others. It goes low, but does not have the power and thump.

It's laid back, and in a way more smooth as there is no enhanced low frequency response. For movies and hip hop music, this can be a deterrent, as the entire punch intended by the director might not come out.

The highs and mids are very nice as they have no spikes or excessive levels in any frequency band-a well rounded response for a PC speaker system. The loudness is also more than adequate.

FOR: Very good looks, clear and crisp mids and highs, very good build.

AGAINST: Bass could be more powerful.
