The SHN9500 by Philips is a slick pair of headphones that isn't just any other model, for it includes active noise cancellation. This model sports a black body with shiny metallic accents in the form of concentric rings around the elliptical ear cups. The inner surface of the earcups is padded with smooth, high quality leatherette. Equally padded is the inner side of the adjustable headband. The right can houses a single AAA battery slot and a silver slider switch for powering the unit on/off. The left
side has a silver button for muting the headphones. The detachable cord is a notable feature.

First we used the headphones without active noise cancellation on, which yielded sound which was full-bodied but not very even. The highs were quite clear and well in control, but the bass was boo my. The overall loudness of the model is commendable. It's a very sensitive yet clean sounding pair of headphones even at the highest levels. Once the NC was switched on though, we looked hard for a desirable effect and were more or less satisfied. What we really liked was the acoustic noise cancelling, which was way better than the active circuit.
