If it shows in the disc management, you format it

Right Click my computer and choose manage, that's how you get into Disk Management, it will be listed on the left once computer management opens. Then do as the poster above says, although I think it will automatically be assigned a driveletter once it is formatted. I don't believe you'll have to do that step.

Have you partitioned and formatted the hard disk?

RtClck 'My computer'>Manage. Select the unnamed disk on the right lower panel and assign a drive letter.

you say its a NEW hard drive, you may need a program like Fdisk to partition the drive and make it active, since it is being detected and you checked the jumpers.

You need to format/partition it ok Start > right click on on My Computer > click on Manage > click on Disk Management on the right > right click on the hard drive and click format or New Partition > after you format/create a new partition it it should appear in your My Computer. Also get SP3 its still in beta but i highly suggest you update.http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=75ED934C-8423-4386-AD98-36B124A720AA&displaylang=en

Ok, the jumpers are set, the new hard drive shows up in my bios, and it shows up on my device manager list under "hard drives" and on "properties" on device, it says installed and properly working....thing is, when i goto "My Computer" from the start button, it's not listed there. Only my master (C:/) shows up under "hard disk drives" how can i fix it so i can see it on there? I'm running windows XP by the way! Service pack 2

In Computer Management go into Disk Management you'll see the hard drive listed.. right click and format it.. then right click and assign it a drive letter.

If nothing else works, try replacing the cable.

Go to the Control Panel and under Administrative Tools choose Computer Management.Under storage in the left panel, choose Disk Management. On the right, you can see your drives. If there's no drive letter assigned, right click it and choose Change Drive Letter and Paths. Set it and it should now be accessible.
