    Default Hard drive more noisy

I am using a new 160 GB Maxtor hard drive and it spins continually up and down even if I am away from the computer as it is not being heard from other drives?

According to me you should run the Disk Defragmenter utility and these happen due when a disc becomes more fragmented an it start searching in several other places so you atleast need run this utility once in month and it even speed up your computer. Or else you may not be having enough RAM so should upgrade it to almost 512 MB to deliver good performance and check your startup items which unnecessarily run during startup.
