How to check Bad Sectors

Bad sector are spaces on the hard disk that can't be utilized because they are spoiled. When your hard disk is tested for bad sectors, every bad sector is noticeable so that the computer does not attempt to make use of it again and the position is remapped to a new part of the hard drive. Your PC can be verified by using the integrated disk checking utility.

Instruction:

The users have to click on Start button which is located on the left side of the taskbar and click on the "My Computer."

And just right-click on the drive you want to test for bad sectors and click on the "Properties" option.

Search for the "Tools" tab and after that click on the key "Check Now" which is below the error checking. And this will convey up a disk-checking window.

And search for the box "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors." Optionally, as well it also verify the "Automatically fix file system errors" box.

You have to click on the "Start" button to start on the scan. Windows will then inspect that hard drive for bad sectors and try to recover statistics in them. If you get a note stating that hard disk check wants selected access to that drive, click on the "Yes" to list the scan for the next time you reboot your PC and then again restart your computer. This will occur if you have any documents on that drive open or if that drive includes your Windows installation.

Instructions & Cautions:

The scan may acquire a long time depending on the volume of your hard drive.
