How to Fix a Maxtor Bad Sector

Maxtor is a well-known hard drive producer. Hard drives though good they are made may at a few times in their life have an area that goes bad. You can repair a bad sector or sectors a Maxtor hard drive yourself by using a built-in Windows program. Although little bad sectors are not a severe problem, having lots of bad sectors specify a severe trouble.

Start the PC by the Maxtor hard drive. After the PC is up and running go to the Start menu in Windows. And Click on the Run command from the start menu type in the run address bar as "chkdsk /R c:” where "c" is the letter of the Maxtor hard drive; the letter may be unlike on your PC. And the Checkdisk will launch.

Start again the PC. If the Maxtor drive is not the chief system drive, Checkdisk might run after rebooting. If the Maxtor hard drive is the system drive, it may inspect the drive now, or it may require restarting again before the application starts working.

Allow Checkdisk estimate the Maxtor hard drive. And the Checkdisk will repair any bad sectors that can repaired and spot it as unfixable sector as bad and will not permit those sectors to be utilized again. Having little bad sectors is not essentially a severe problem.

Do again the scan procedure one more time. Sometimes running Checkdisk once more will verify more error on the Maxtor drive. If you get many errors the second time, the hard drive may be going bad.

Save all the data on the Maxtor drive to a new drive if the drive appear to have lots of bad sectors or is continually finding bad sectors. The Maxtor drive may function correctly for a while, but the drive might stop working at some time with no caution.

The above information work on a open range of platforms. You might also be able to verify a drive for fault using a integrated Windows program.
