My goal is to setup a convenient development setting on a WD Passport. Specially, using a WDML5000TN to run Windows XP Pro.

However I have come across a problem. After reading the procedures to setup an USB stick with trying a number of them I was capable to arrange as well as boot WinXP through Barts PE. This inveterate that the necessary boot process would work.

My next trouble was installing Windows XP on the WD Passport. Because the set up performs a reboot, the procedure would not pass. After many tests to get around this, I performed the set up on another hard drive as well as copied it to WD Passport.

Here is what has worked so far:

1) Using Norton Partition Magic, NTFS format the WD Passport drive.

2) Using the HP USB Key utility, add a boot record.

3) Using a spare hard drive in a desktop computer, install Windows XP on that drive.

4) Using Norton Ghost, copy the hard drive to the WD Passport. Note, do not choose the "copy mbr" option.

Now I have a fresh installation on the WD Passport. After checking my aim workstation bios as well as startup configuration, USB boot was enabled.

*** Here is the trouble ***

When booting from the WD Passport the boot record is effectively executed as well as the NTLoader appears to work too. I confirmed this by executing safeboot as well as watching the load process. The system begins loading dlls from %systemroot%/system32 and then stops as well as reboots.

Unfortunately enabling bootlogging in the boot.ini does not save a log.
Is there another way I can detain the failing step so I can debug this?
