Default How to manage two HDD in one PC Properly

I have two SATA hard drives of 80 GB each. I am using an Intel 915 chipset motherboard. My operating system is installed in one of the hard drives. If I try to connect my other hard drive, it does not get detected and moreover sometimes when I connect my second hard drive to the system, it does not boot. The first Intel blue screen flashes and then nothing else works after that.

Another problem which I have is when I turn off my system and restart it, my desktop opens up and it takes about two minutes or so to display. I mean I can't even access any of the drives or any of the applications. As soon as my desktop opens, I check the task manager and the user names for the processes aren't being displayed completely. Slowly all the processes start running after two to three minutes and then my system starts working properly. Also another problem I face is that, if I am using my system for playing a game or something else, more number of processes start running simultaneously and my hard drive makes a lot of noise. But when I stop all the programs, such as games, and keep my system idle, there is no sound from the hard drive. Why is the sound being produced more when many processes are running simultaneously? Please help me out with these problems.

All the three problems seem to be related to the hard drive. I would advise that you to backup your data as soon as possible and reformat both the hard drives. The hard drives are either beginning to fail or have started generating bad sectors or the data is fragmented heavily. The hard drive is trying to access the data as fast as it can and hence the irritating sounds. If there are times when the system pauses for a long time and starts again, this could mean that the hard drive has bad sectors on the platter. I would suggest that you opt for a new hard drive if so. To be absolutely sure that hard drives are erratic, have them checked on another computer before you make a final decision. Also try changing the data cables from the motherboard to the hard drive to see if it helps.
