I have a Pentium IV machine that has 1 GB RAM along with an 80 GB hard drive (PATA). I want to buy a 500 GB hard drive and as you know that PATA hard drives are no more available. Please help me as I don't want to buy an external hard drive.

Yes, PATA hard drives are not available anymore as all motherboards today support SATA hard drives and optical drives. You can install a SATA-to-PATA convector or a SATA PCI card to use the hard drive on your computer. But there are issues reported with installing an operating.
