The Barracuda XT is Seagate's new flagship hard drive and the first to feature the third-generation SATA 6 Gb/s interface. This four-platter hard drive with a spindle speed of 7200 rpm offers 2 terabytes of storage space and is equipped with a large 64 MB buffer.
We tested this drive on the Asus P7P55D-E Premium motherboard with the Marvell 9123 SATA 3.0 controller. The difference in performance was negligible when we switched from the Intel P55's native SATA 2.0 port to a SATA 3.0 port. The real-world random read and write speeds were 110 MB/s and 74 MB/s respectively. Even the synthetic tests revealed similar results. The sequential read and write speeds were better-116 MB/s and 94 MB/s respectively Although this drive isn't able to utilize the full potential of the SATA 3.0 interface, it's one of the fastest in the market.
