Thread: PCI-Express card external eSATA or SAS

I require PCI-Express RAID controller card for TR5M Sans Digital 5-bay eSATA enclosure. Should I obtain SAS card rather than eSATA? With external miniSAS, I can include additional enclosures easily in future. My worry is whether eSATA fanned out from miniSAS cable can maintain port multipliers.

Does not work like that. SATA doesn’t equivalent eSATA. They are totally different connectors.
SAS doesn’t maintain SATA port multipliers. I have never seen a SAS8088 -> eSATA fanout cable.

It would work that way if enclosure didn’t have port multiplier.
