Despite the relatively high data density of 477 Mbits per square millimeter Toshiba requires two data disks to accommodate the gross capacity of 400 GB in the MK4058GSX. Each disk are by two read-write heads to the side. The rotational speed is 5400 revolutions per minute - the usual pace for 2.5-inch drives. The buffer memory of the Toshiba model is 8 MB. The average data rate of 400 GB hard drive was good 52 (read) and just under 55 MB / s (write). Compared to the fastest 2.5-inch drive in this discipline, the Samsung Spinpoint MP2 HM251JJ, Toshiba was the model that 23 respectively 18 percent slower.
