Over the last some years I have assuming special interest in network-connected memory, or NAS for short. As contributing big amounts of information from a standard desktop PC became problematic, the move to NAS only created sense and now furnishes a central point to share and store information in our office on a daily basis.
Roughly 2 years before the exact solution for us demonstrated in the form of the synonym Cube Station 407e. This NAS machine supported 4 hard drives and was provided through a 266MHz processor and 64MB of random access memory. At the time this was an effective setting for a little office environment, though with limited horsepower there was just very much the CS407e could do.
Since then I have assured out a number of NAS machines, adding Synology's own Disk Station DS-509Plus which is planned for anything from office utilize to corporate information center-type function. This NAS machine supports up to 5 hard drives and sports a 1.06GHz processor with 1GB of storage.
The developed function created the DS-509+ a temptation that I merely could not resist, and the CS407e was eventually substituted albeit the steep cost tag.
Indeed, the DS-509+ is long from cheap and importantly more costly than the CS407e we utilized to function. Therefore, as we saw things, the ideal NAS machines for now's SOHO users would be something that could deliver function same to that of the DS-509+, but at a cost that was more in line with the CS407e.Synology is undertaking to deliver on this with their new 09-serial Disk Station examples freed previous month.
The Disk Station DS-409+ that we will be reviewing now supports 4 hard drives with a strong 1.06GHz processor and 512MB of random access memory. These specifications are same to those of the DS-509+, but with a cost tag that we experience is a more manageable target for clients.
The DS-409+ is planned to appeal to little-and-medium business users seeking an cheap result for efficient information sharing and backup. Besides the specifications elaborated above, this fresh NAS machine supports 2 terabyte hard drives and therefore can be formed with up to 8TBs of storage.
Additionally, entire the 09-serial Disk Station example are shipping with the Disk Station Manager 2.1 software. This software utilizes an AJAX-founded interface, includes integration for fresh mail server capabilities with the set up of the Mail Station include-on, increases Synology Surveillance Station, storage management, user management, privilege management, and includes support for fresh languages.
