A KVM (Keyboard-Video-Mouse) switch is a basic unit that enables you to control more than two computers using just one keyboard, mouse and monitor. In a world where having just 'one' isn't enough; the need for multiple PCs is rising.
This is the case especially for professional video editors and animators where more than one computer is needed. KVM switches have been here for quite
a long time, but have only recently seen any advances.

The Aten CS1782 KVMP (KeyboardŽVideo-Mouse-Printer) is an intelligent switch that does not just allow you to use one keyboard, mouse and monitor with two computers, but can be used as a printer switch too. Additionally, it can switch a 7.1 channel speaker set between the two PCs as well.

The CS1782 uses DVI ports for its video interfaces, phasing out the older VGA connector<=:. Hence you woudl, need to use computers with DVI ports only. It can support resolutions as high as 3840x2400 and can memorize each connected monitor's brand and display number. The KVMP switch is so intelligent, that you can choose to use the USB port of one computer while switching and working on the second one, and the same can be done with the audio ports as well.

The switch can be controlled using switches on its front panel, or you can using keyboard hotkeys too. The unit comes with all the cables needed to connect two computers to one console. The user manual explains the functions and usability of the KVM P, and is quite easy to understand. The switch's firmware can also be upgraded using a RS232 (serial) port connection.
