This video card is based on AMD’s Hemlock chip. This chip is almost equal to the HD 5870 in terms of stipulation excluding there are two of them on the card and the reference HD 5970 chips are clocked at 725MHz in its place of the 850MHz reference clock for the HD 5870. Each of the two chips on the board has 2.15 billion transistors produced on TSMC’s 40nm production process. AMD has been at the front of slighter production process on video cards with the initial 90nm chip, the initial 65nm chip, the initial 55nm chip. All of the two chips have 1600 Stream Processors, which is twice that of the HD 5870.

Every Evergreen chip as well as the HD 5970 supports equal to 6 monitors on 1 card the HD 5970 has connections for three monitors. AMD calls their multi-monitor support Eyefinity, with the capability to utilize above two monitors wanting the use of a DisplayPort connector. Three monitor gaming was introduced by Matrox with their Parhelia. Three monitors have lots of realistic uses for business people and those observing stocks.
