A GT240 would be a skillful card to have. It utilizes less power equated to the GTS250 hence most 400W PSU's should be alright for the GT240.

A GTS 250 would be the better selection for a new card about that price range while you may be capable to determine a utilized GTX 260 for under $100 as well.

If you're not disinclined to purchasing utilized 50 bucks could net you this gentleman's 4830 which should be enough.

Otherwise tossing a WTB ad for a utilized Radeon 4870 or GTX 260 on Craigslist or here should acquire some bites too.

I state determine a 4870 at a good price and go for that. They're across the same price as the GTS 250 but 7-8% better. The GTX 260 looks to be almost still with the 4870 but still looks to be more valuable.

If it has to be fresh GT240. If it can be utilized then go with what others have HD4870/90 or GTX260.

However if you're functioning AMD perhaps acquire something that supports Hybrid Crossfire? I experience the IGP likely doesn't give much benefit but it could be adequate for light gaming.

I've utilized all various brands of video cards from dissimilar producers to different gpu chip sets. several of the single slot ones die where none of the dual slot ones die. The owners have nothing to do with it they utilize the card for gaming and that's it.

I utilize a individual slot 8800GT in my backup system which has run wonderfully for the last 3 years. Runs hot but as unchanging as can be.

I would suggest him acquire a 8800 gt but if he appears hard he could find a cheap 4870 or a GTX 260. These cards are 15-30% better and have about the similar heat/noise. But if the kids simply play Sims it's a hard decision. personally I say he simply pay the additional $20-30.
