What prompted you to choose Eclipse as the IDE? Why not NetBeans?

Pi. number of key people in the Eclipse community are Carleton University alumni. This lent itself to the project as we had good access to them and to businesses developing on top of Eclipse. We tried out NetBeans and there were definitely many things we liked about it. In the end, we had to make a tough decision between great IDEs, which is a good problem to have. The Eclipse community, based on what we saw, was larger and had very broad support from industry.

In general, the choice between great technologies was a constant theme in the project. Rather than try to be all things to all people (and increase the risk of failure), we chose to specialise and target a niche.
