VMware Workstation edition is a must have for power users. It gives you the ability to run a virtual machine (VM), that behaves just like a real computer. The advantage is that this VM runs entirely within a sandbox, so your host cornputer can remain unaffected. If you need to test a new version of an as (Ubuntu 8.04 for example), and don't want to mess with your hard disk's partitioning scheme, you can boot from the CD and install it as usual, inside a VM (called a guest OS).

You could run very old DOS games within a Win95 guest OS running on a 64-bit host as, You could install and run multiple VMs at the same time (limited only by RAM), and switch between them, if you are learning to manage networks. New features in VMware 6.5 beta include support for accelerated 3D graphics and smart cards for WinXP guest OSes.
