Installation of Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional in my computer

Hello all. I知 having a question which I知 hoping that someone out there will be able to answer it: I have recently installed MS Windows 2000 Professional on both my main desktop computer and also on my PII Compaq Armada M300 Laptop by making use of the same product key. And have lately received a PIII Compaq Armada which has Windows 98 in it as its operating system in it. Now I desire to take out it and then install Windows 2000 Professional in its place. Here is where the problem is been arising. Attempts are been made for installing Win2K from my disc which has failed with the following error message: Also unable to copy MFC42.dll. was been enable to find a solution, but extra attempts resulted in more dll messages and an acs error message. I have also been told that there is a licenses limit on installing Windows 2000 Pro on more than one computer. Is this correct? How do I go about rectify this problem. Thanks to all for your comments/information.

Since Windows 2000 Pro which didn't have opening; I don't think that's your problem with your computer. I would also suggest you either there must be a bad hard drive or a bad ram.

Thanks for your comments. In fact, after making an attempt for a few times to install it, I then called out Microsoft and they told me that the version of Windows 2000 which I知 having can only be installed on one computer not more than one computer. So you may either have to purchase another copy, or you will have to install another operating system in your computer.

Of course they will definitely going to tell you that you will have to purchase another copy as they can't enforce it. But how would the installation would know that copy is being already installed on another computer or not? I still say that it's either a bad hard drive or bad memory in your computer.

I haven't installed 2000 lately, but when I make using it, I have been told about the chance to install it on a Xeon server and an MSI 845G boards. Sometimes the CD's do burn out without technical term and somehow becomes un-readable. As long as you have the CD key, it will install. It's not too costly to buy a new 2000. Last time when I had bought one of them with the legit copies, which are been sold in surplus. I'm also very curious if Windows 2003 server, for example, can detect the presence of multiple machines running 2000 installed from the same CD.

I don't believe that the Windows Server 2003 is able to detect the 2 computers which is with the same CD key. The only thing that needs to be sole for each computer is the SID.
