Default Urge an operating system for an old computer.

My brother is now going abroad for his vacation and he's also planning for taking a computer with him which he was donated with him to donate it to a community placed abroad. OK, I didn't even bother too much with it but I also know that it has an AMD K6 as well as 60MB in it of RAM. It also has Windows 98 installed in it. Would you think that Windows 2000 might be too much for that little comp? Also planning to give a fresh installation in the computer. Any tips concerning about that manner?

Windows 2000 might be better but you may actually increase up your RAM at least 128 MB of RAM and 256 MB which might be more preferable. I would also opt for the Windows 98 if you are unable to increase the amount of RAM in the computer.

I too will advice you about the 2000 pro with sp4. XP's least requirement is having about 64mb of Ram, if it shows 60mb, then perhaps 4mb is being used by the involved shared memory video controller in the computer.

Agreed. But W2K which will also run in least amounts of RAM it's awfully slow. Add in an old processor like the K6 and it would be approximately not practical unless you can enlarge the RAM. I have also checked the hard disk space. My W2K installation uses 1.7GB apart from the applications. I'd stick with W98 unless it's got at least a 5GB disk.

Unless and until you are not capable of upgrade the ram, I'd just reinstall the windows 98.
