Upgrading of 32bit to 64bit with Free/Cheap?

First of all, I’m an Aussie and I have to entirely recognize that I will require doing an entire reinstall, or producing a first division - so that isn't the question.

I have a legit copy of Vista Business 32bit. I have also noticed that you can get in touch with Microsoft and they will send you the 64bit version for a small fee - when you buy a Vista license you are purchasing both 32 and 64 bit versions.

I've been also looking around a bit, and unable to locate any way to do this. Can someone offer me some advice on how to go about this?

Thanks

Did you buy OEM or Retail? It's only obtainable for the Retail.

It is sounding like a severe RMA to me, you must have understand the error before opening any package for sure, the Retail edition comes in an official plastic box and costs more than the OEM!

I consider that's for the USA. I would check with Microsoft Australia to see if they have an alike offer.

Yeah I have also emailed Microsoft and they called me back to place the payment in spite of it being OEM. It seems that if you call them, they actually don't care as you've purchased a license and a lot of vendors are giving OEM copies despite the payment for retail.

Good to know about it. How much did they charge you if you don't mind me asking? The delivery cost?

Did you purchase the computer with Vista pre-loaded or did you purchase Vista individually? If it was pre-loaded, then of course you're offered with an OEM copy. If you're paying full retail price and receiving an OEM copy, then you should also demand a refund for it. However, the 32 to 64-bit upgrade is likely with both. The dissimilarity is where you get it.

MS will start upgrading the retail copies without any issue. For OEM, you typically have to go to your computer producer to get the upgrade. Though, as you found out, all you actually need is a valid license and MS will honor the upgrade.
